Whiz Burgers Drive-In
About This Spot
Whiz Burgers Drive-In feels like a humble, familiar corner of San Francisco where time slows down just enough to savor simple pleasures. Nestled in a quiet parking lot on Van Ness Avenue, this unpretentious spot invites you to pull up a chair at a weathered picnic table beneath the soft glow of an aging neon sign—its faded light a reminder of many stories shared over decades. The pace is easy, the chatter casual, and the clatter from the kitchen gently punctuates the air, creating a soundtrack that's both comforting and inviting.
This is a place where the focus is on the food and the moments that unfold while you wait for it. The air is tinged with the familiar scents of grilled onions, toasted buns, and perfectly fried potatoes—aromas that seem to unlock memories of childhood or long road trips. The menu, while rooted in classic Americana, offers variety enough to satisfy any craving, with each hand-pressed burger bringing you something straightforward yet deeply satisfying. Accompany your meal with a cold mango shake or a root beer float, and you find yourself savoring not just flavors but the sheer joy of slowing down to enjoy a meal that feels like an honest celebration of local flavor.
What truly sets this drive-in apart isn’t just the food but the spirit that lives behind the counter. The staff exudes warmth and a sincere eagerness that can brighten a tough day, adding a human touch to a simple meal and fostering a connection that keeps neighbors coming back. Though the neon sign may flicker and the lighting around the lot isn’t perfect, that sense of being part of a lived-in, authentic neighborhood gem never dims.
Whether you stop by for a quick burger craving or linger for the nostalgic ambiance, Whiz Burgers Drive-In offers a genuine taste of unhurried, everyday joy among friends and strangers alike—serving up not just meals but moments worth savoring in every bite.

Love this little ma&pop diner, nothing fancy. Just a couple old picnic tables and the original neon sign that probably stopped working back in the eighties, but the food is cooked fresh and delicious. Best Philly cheese steak I’ve had on the west coast.

Old school burger joint keeping it real in the City. Had an absolutely fabulous Burger. I'm going to come back and try their cheesesteak. Pay extra for the grilled onions, totally worth it.

I came here 2 times and Everytime had always been great service so far..I love the workers they are amazing. I was having a bad day and these guys managed to put a smile on me. Thank you all. I love the smiles and greetings . Especially the cashier with the curly hair with a hat on . I order 2 orders of chicken wings and a root beer float . Everything in total was about 32 dollars. That's a great price with great service so worth it Keep it up guys

On a tour of Bay Area burger joints, and Whiz Burger was calling our name next. Parking lot has a good amount of spaces, just wish it was a little better lit (but that's just the small, female wary of dark corners in me) Service was fast, I was surprised by the amount of options, and wow that banana milkshake and their waffle cut fries are somethin' else! I got a 1/4 jr burger with cheese, and my man got the Whiz. His was definitely better than mine, but that's what you get when you add avocado to anything ;P I think for future hungover me, I'd like to grab a Beep's burger & onion rings, then swing by Whiz for a banana shake & waffle fries.

Every time I travel, I try to find an old school burger joint. Stumbled upon this one in SF. About two miles from the main downtown area. Could walk there but I took a Waymo. The burgers were delicious, the portion for friends was also good, AND they were placed in a little brown bag which was very cute. I had the bacon cheeseburger. Wish I would’ve tried the RootBeer Float but I was already full from the meal. The customer service was excellent as well. I didn’t get the guys name that helped me, but he was very nice and if I come to back to SF, I will definitely visit this place again.

This is by far the best burger place in the area. The cashier that works nights, he is one of the reasons we love this place so much! Not only dose he always remember us but he remembers what sauce we want even after not going there for over 2 months! They have the best fries! (remind me of fries from back home in new zealand) the philly and cheese steak is bomb 11/10! The banana shake too 11/10 There junior burger is bomb too! Definitely recommend going here, there prices are on the more expensive side but it's understandable with how everything is now. It's still worth every dollar
